For our featured new author today at Feels Like The First Time, we have the lovely MV Ellis. I love her book. It starts with a bang a hooks you right in.
Me: Hi MV! Welcome to Feels Like The First Time! We just love new authors like you. <looks at MV and wonders if I should go to the gym later>
MV: Thank you for having me. I have been stalking you for a while now.
Me: Wait! Um, I do the stalking here?
Me: <getting a little intimidated> Let’s get started with the questions. can you tells us about the first book you are publishing? How long did it take you to write this book?
MV: My first book, Catching London, is a smoking hot contemporary romance set in the sultry cities of New York and Paris.
The story follows sexy millionaire rocker Arlo Jones and stunning dancer-turned-photographer London Llwellyn. The two meet in unusual circumstances when Arlo finds London naked in his shower. Sparks fly instantly, and neither can ignore the chemistry they share, but their relationship is a rollercoaster ride from the get go.
Although he’s a total badass, it’s clear that Arlo has finally met his match in London, and she refuses to give him an inch. Most of the time. The rest of the time she finds herself inexplicably and irrevocably drawn to him, as much as she tries to avoid him. Unfortunately for him, Arlo’s reputation precedes him. while he promises to always be there to catch her London, she’s not sure if she can trust him enough to let herself fall.
It took me about a year to get this book to market, writing largely at night between the hours of 9pm and 3am. This includes finding a publisher and the editing process.
Me: How are you feeling right now? Excited? Super scared?
MV: I’m both excited AND scared. It’s less than two weeks before the book is released, and that’s such an amazing feeling. It’s been a long road, but to finally be this close to being a published author is surreal. I’m nervous because it’s a big deal to share your creative vision and your passion with the world. It’s a pretty terrifying experience, and it’s really easy for those niggling doubts to creep in.
On the other hand, the book has had a great reception so far from beta readers, advance readers and bloggers, so I’m quietly confident that everyone else will enjoy it too.
Me: <can’t help but be amazed> Are you working on your next book?
MV: I’m absolutely working on my next book, which is also incredibly exciting. Obviously being the second time around it feels quite different to it did when I wrote Catching London. I don’t want to give too much away at this stage, but it’s fair to say that in this book we’ll see things more from Arlo’s perspective, and will also learn a bit more about some of the supporting characters we were introduced to in Catching London. Let’s just say that though Catching London doesn’t finish on a cliff hanger, Arlo and London’s story isn’t over at the end of the book. In fact, that’s just the beginning.
Me: Catching London is not out yet and I already can’t wait to see the sequel. I hope you come back here to talk about it on your next book release. Before I let you go, what gym do you go to? … MV?
