Today at Author Stalker, we have the queen of plot twists, Sam Mariano. I seriously don’t know how what to expect when opening one of her books other that it would be an awesome emotional roller coaster ride. Did I mention awesome?
Me: Hi, Sam!
Sam: Hi, Stalker!
Me: I don’t know if I have been called that out loud.
Sam: Um… you are in my Instagram, my Facebook page, my two Facebook groups, my…
Me: Okay! I get it. Can I ask you a few questions?
Me: So how long have you been writing?
Sam: Well, I’ve been a writer since I was around 13-14 years old, but I’ve been publishing since 2013.
Me: Are you writing full time or part time?
Sam: I used to be part-time, but I more or less consider myself full-time now. I log at least 80 hours a week on author-related work, so while I do have a part time job in addition, I definitely write full-time!
Me: What influenced you to write?
Sam: I’ve always had characters and stories in my head. Before writing I used to play Barbies and assign certain Barbies to characters (I got so annoyed if my friends came over and tried to call them by a different name, lol) and had them act out their stories. So, I’ve really always done it, just in different ways.
Me: What is your first published book? How did you feel when you published it? Excited? Scared?
Sam: My first published book was Because of You. I didn’t do anything the right way (I studied nothing prior to publishing, just threw it out into the world, no marketing, nothing) so I didn’t really know what to expect. I was excited to put it out there, but sure, there’s always a bit of fear, too. That particular story had been read so many times by others, though, I wasn’t TOO scared. (I originally wrote the book in installments on Fictionpress… like, old-school Wattpad.)
Me: What can you tell us about your new book, Stitches?
Sam: Stitches is my newest release. I just loved that book. It was my first foray into the ménage romance genre, but I’ll write the story of any character who grabs hold of me tightly enough. Sebastian St. Clair grabbed me and did not let go (and let me tell you, I had no complaints about that, haha) so I ended up writing this less traditional love story of Sebastian and Moira, this perfect couple with an ideal love, and then what happens when Sebastian’s best friend Griff’s feelings for Moira are discovered right as his life is falling apart. I absolutely love the story. It was sexy, edgy, romantic, a touch of darkness–everything I like in a book.
